Keeping Your Dirt Bike Safe With a Synthetic Oil Change

Riding a dirt bike can be a thrilling and exhilarating experience. However, it also has its risks and it is very important that you always do your best to stay safe. That is why today we want to share some important tips to help you stay safe when using your dirt bike.

Tips to Help You Have a Safer Ride on Your Dirt Bike

  • Read the owner´s manual. One of the most important things you can do to stay safe is to get to know your dirt bike well. Whether you are just beginning or even if  have been riding for a while, it is still important to read the owner´s manual. Especially if you have recently purchased a new bike or are switching from a two stroke to a four stroke bike or vice versa.
  • Use the right oil. Remember that the oil specifications are very different between a two-stroke and a four-stroke bike. Each has a very different system and therefore the oil you put in it is not the same. It is necessary to check your owner´s manual so you can purchase the right type of lubricant for your specific dirt bike model. For help selecting the best synthetic oil for your dirt bike you can always use AMSOIL´s vehicle look up tool or contact Maints Tech Sales and Service directly and recieve more personalized attention.
  • Check the oil. Make sure that the oil in your dirt bike is is both sufficient and in good state. Never neglect your bike´s lubrication. Passing up an oil change can be very dangerous for your bike and for you because it can cause severe damage that may result in an accident if you push your bike to the limits.
  • Make sure your bike is in good conditions. Never take your bike for a ride if you are unsure of the conditions it is in. Make sure you keep it in good shape and well maintained. This includes making sure that all fluid levels are sufficient and that the wires, chains, and tires are also in good standing.
  • Always wear a helmet! Wearing a helmet is an absolute must no matter where you are going, or how the trail is. Do not get on your dirt bike if your helmet is not on. This is a rule that you should live by all the time because it can definately save your life. Your helmet should not be loose or very tight it should fit sung. The helmet should also have a face shield and it is best if it has the ¨DOT¨ label. This means it is built to meet the U.S. Department of Transportation standards.
  • Use the right gear and clothing. Using a dirt bike can be a bit more challenging because you don´t always know what may show up on a trail and wearing the right clothing can be a big relief. Long pand and long sleeve shirts are a good start but you should also wear shoes that are covered and allow you to get a good grip. Gloves and knees, chest and shoulder pads are also recommended.
  • Stay alert. Be on the look out and avoid distractions. Stay focused on the road and even if you are just taking it easy, don´t leave your cellphone on a loud ring tone that may take you by surprice or catch you off guard when you listen to it.
  • Use the buddy system. This is especially important when going on new roads and trails. Always try to go along with a partner. This helps ensure that if an accident or anything else where to happen you atleast have someone with you that can assist you or go get help if necessary.
  • Don´t use your dirt bike on highways and roads. Just like the title says dirt bikes are made for dirt and trails. They not made for the smooth pavement or asphalt. Therefore, unless it is necessary that you just cross a road to reach the next trail, do not drive them on a road or street. If you are taking a drive to the wild and are thinking about spending some time there, follow Yamaha´s outdoor tips on respectful riding.
